PhD position: Multifunctional Biomimetic Membranes for Skin Tissue Engineering in St. Gallen

Jobbeschreibung

As a member of the Swiss research association-Skintegrity.CH, our lab has been working on novel biomaterials for skin tissue Engineering. This interdisciplinary PhD project combines chemistry, material sciences and biomedicine. Hybrid biomaterials that can closely mimic the structural and mechanical properties of human skins will be developed. The performance of such biomaterials in therapeutic cell delivery, controlled drug release, infection prevention and promoting tissue regeneration will be explored.


Your Tasks

  • Develop electrospun nanofibrous membranes and biocompatible hydrogels.
  • Investigate the interactions between cells/skin and biomaterials.
  • Exchange research findings and ideas with our research partners from both material science and biomedicine.
  • Publish results in high impact journals and present your research at national and international conferences.

Desired profile

  • Completed Master`s degree in chemistry, materials science or biomedical engineering.
  • Previous experience with 3D cell culturing and animal studies is an asset.
  • Highly motivated, communicative and interested in interdisciplinary research.
  • Language skills: English

 

We offer a challenging position at a materials research institution with outstanding infrastructure and an interdisciplinary surrounding. You can expect significant support and guidance from established scientists during the whole of your project. Project duration of 4 years is planned in order to carry out the above research tasks. The candidate will perform his/her research at Empa in St. Gallen. The starting date is as soon as possible.
