PhD position on "High Resolution Gravure Printing" for Printed Electronics in Thun

EMPA (European Master of Public Administration Consortium) is a network of European schools, that offer master programs in public administration.

Jobbeschreibung

The success of Printed Electronics depends largely on the ability to print functional materials, with high resolution and at high speeds. To tackle this challenge, novel inks need to be developed, and the interplay of ink, cylinder design and process parameters needs to be understood and optimized. Goal of the project is to demonstrate the feasibility of gravure printing as a manufacturing technology for printed electronics. We will address this task in a collaborative effort with partner research groups at Empa Thun, EPFL, ETHZ, and two companies. Funding for the project is received from the Strategic Focus Area Advanced Manufacturing of the ETH Board (the strategic management body of the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology and four research institutes) and is granted for a period of four years.

Your Tasks:

  • Formulation of gravure printing inks from 2D materials
  • Testing and evaluation of printed features on various gravure printer and cylinder configurations
  • Printing of functional devices

Your Profile:

You are a highly motivated experimentalist with a Master degree in physics, materials science, chemical engineering or a related discipline. You have hands-on laboratory experience in formulation of suspensions and solution deposition techniques and printing. Prior experience with gravure printing is a plus.

Our offer:

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers. The experimental work will be carried out at Empa Dübendorf. You will be registered as a PhD student at EPFL.
