You will work both on fundamental and applied research projects in the field of FIB-SEM and TEM techniques for microstructure, stresses and phase analyses in materials and coatings. The successful candidate will assist in the development of in-situ nano-analytical techniques, such as precession diffraction, high-resolution electron backscatter diffraction (HR-EBSD) and transmission EBSD (TKD) techniques.
You must hold a PhD in Materials Science, Physics or similar. A high level of motivation to work in close collaboration with experimentalists and in an international and multidisciplinary research team is essential. Knowledge of English (oral and written) is required and knowledge of German would be an advantage. Experience in TEM, FIB-SEM and electron diffraction techniques (Precession, (HR)-3D-EBSD or TKD) is desirable. Knowledge in X-ray diffraction techniques, Raman analyses and micromechanics would be an asset. You will work in close collaboration with several research groups and industries working in the field of synthesis of architectured composite materials such as multi-layered thin films.
Empa in Thun offers an ideal working environment and is situated in a beautiful area near Bern in the German-speaking part of Switzerland.
