Postdoc in the field of solid-state batteries in Dübendorf

EMPA (European Master of Public Administration Consortium) is a network of European schools, that offer master programs in public administration.

Jobbeschreibung

The Laboratory for Thin Films and Photovoltaics is internationally known for innovative research in the fields of thin-film photovoltaics, thin-film batteries, and printed electronics. Specifically, thin-film solid-state batteries (SSBs) are developed for powering wireless sensors and smart cards. At the same time, thin-film geometry provides a flexible platform for exploring materials and interfacial phenomena that can be transferred to bulk batteries.
SSBs in combination with a Li-metal anode have the potential to transform the battery market. Anode-free SSBs are of particular interest because of the absence of Li-metal in as-manufactured cells. However, the non-uniform plating and stripping of Li-metal is a key challenge that remains to be solved to enable anode-free SSBs. This project focuses on the development of thin-film SSBs in an anode-free configuration by physical vapour deposition (PVD) methods. In collaboration with academic and industrial partners, this project aims to combine thin film deposition methods with bulk cathodes to fabricate anode-free SSBs with high energy density.
Your Profile:
You have a PhD degree in physics, materials science, electrical engineering or similar field with experience in solid-state ionics. In-depth experience with PVD methods and advanced characterization methods, both for materials and devices, is a plus. The job requires a high level of experimental skills to operate PVD machines and design innovative experiments. You are a team player and your strengths include taking personal responsibility, a high motivation to innovate and a commitment to achieving goals.

Our Offer:
We offer a postdoc position at the research institution with excellent infrastructure and broad interdisciplinary surroundings with plenty of possibilities for professional and personal development. You will be member of a collaborative project with academic and industrial partners from Germany, Spain, and Switzerland, funded by M-ERA.NET. The initial contract is for one year and can be extended up to 2 years upon mutual agreement.
