Postdoctoral researcher on competitive H2O-CO2 sorption in porous materials in Dübendorf

EMPA (European Master of Public Administration Consortium) is a network of European schools, that offer master programs in public administration.

Jobbeschreibung

We welcome applications from candidates that are motivated to contribute to the development of predictive models to simulate equilibrium and dynamic processes during competitive H2O-CO2 sorption in MOFs, zeolites, carbons, and silica (aero)gels. In close collaboration with the three research teams at Empa and PSI, the postdoc will advance our expertise and analytical capabilities to model and experimentally study the co-sorption process and screen commercial and in-house sorbent materials. The researcher will interact with other SCENE partners in the overall CCUS project and provide them with the technical inputs needed for CO2 conversion and overall assessment of the CCUS cycle.

Your responsibilities include:
  • To plan and conduct simulations to advance the fundamental understanding and improve the performance of sorbents for water-carbon dioxide co-adsorption.
  • To build, expand and maintain commercial, open-source, and in-house code packages to simulate sorption.
  • To characterize commercial and in-house-synthetized sorbent materials.
  • To assist project leaders with the project management.
  • To take the lead in scientific publication of the results.
Your profile
  • PhD degree in Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, or similar, with strong hands-on experience in modelling of sorption processes at the molecular and materials scale.
  • Ability to interpret analytical data and techniques to characterize sorption processes and porous materials.
  • The work requires high level of computational skills and an analytical mindset for interpreting real data from lab experiments.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment towards a common goal.
  • You are a team player and your strengths include taking personal responsibility, high motivation for innovation, excellence and flexibility to work and deliver results.

We offer an international, highly stimulating research environment with excellent infrastructure and broad interdisciplinary surroundings with plenty of possibilities for personal and professional development. You will work on important and promising solutions to the global climate problem in an international environment. The contract is initially offered for two years with the possibility of extension to three years upon mutual satisfaction. The starting date is January 2023 or upon mutual agreement. This is a shared Empa-PSI appointment with place of work in Dübendorf and Villigen.
