Student Internship in Molecular Biology (Next Generation Sequencing) in Basel

The Process Research & Supply unit of the pCMC department is responsible for supporting projects from lead optimization up to Phase I enabling toxicological studies. Our tasks include the preparation of drug candidates (oligonucleotides, small molecules and peptides) for formulation, DMPK and toxicological studies. To do so, we develop new methodologies and implement new technologies that allow a fast, reliable, safe, and robust supply of the desired drug candidates.

During your stay in our team you will:
  • Develop a new methodology for the analysis of chemically modified oligonucleotides
  • Learn how to functionalize and analyze oligonucleotides
  • Be a part of a state of the art multidisciplinary laboratory working at the intersection of oligonucleotide chemistry and molecular biology. You will get further knowledge in different techniques such as bioconjugation, gel electrophoresis, PCR and other enzymatic manipulation of oligonucleotides.
  • Be part of a small team under the direct supervision of a laboratory head and the guidance of the team members
  • have the chance to support this project in Basel (main station) and Roche Denmark Affiliate

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated master student in the area of Biotechnology, Chemical Biology, Pharmacy and in the penultimate or last year of studies or you just graduated and would like to carry out an internship before starting your PhD. You are highly motivated, interested in a purpose- and people-driven and multinational environment and you have already gained some laboratory experience.

Moreover you are/have:
  • First experience in enzymatic manipulation of oligonucleotides.
  • Expertise in gel electrophoresis and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays is an advantage
  • Illumina sequencing is something you have heard of and you are passionate to learn or increase your skills.
  • A dedicated knowledge sharer with excellent organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated, focused, multi-tasking and meeting timelines efficiently and productively
  • Feel comfortable while an independent working style
  • Proficient in English

The starting date of this internship is upon availability. However, ideally you would be able to start in September/October 2018. Please clearly indicate your preferred starting date and duration of internship in your cover letter. Applicant might be required to spend a relevant amount of their time (up to 4 months) working at our Roche site in Denmark.
